According to The 2024 AI Adoption Index 2.0 by IT industry apex body Nasscom assessing enterprise AI execution ability, covering over 500 companies across seven sectors representing 75% of India's GDP, there is a "2X rise in the number of companies in the Expert stage of AI adoption, indicating significant progress."
The report also highlighted that "strong national-scale support pillars have emerged in promoting AI adoption - India AI mission, supportive policy framework, AI and GenAI-ready tech services, AI-focused startup ecosystem, and the 2nd largest installed AI talent base." Another Deloitte-Nasscom report projected that India's AI talent demand will "grow from 600,000-650,000 to more than 1,250,000 during 2022-27" while an EY 2024 poll on the flip side found that "50% of business leaders anticipate a combination of both layoffs and hiring over the next six months as a direct result of AI adoption."
The same poll also underscored that "even with hiring plans in place, three out of five technology leaders (61%) say that emerging technology has made it more challenging for their company to source top technology talent."
