In a recent update, Peru is currently suffering from a sea disaster. The coasts of Peru are facing massive waves reaching up to 13 feet (four meters). This has forced the local authorities to shut all the ports facing danger. As of Saturday, Peru, a South American country, had shut down 91 of its 121 ports. As per the National Emergency Operations Center, the closures will be effective until January 1. This has caused a major impact on Peru’s fishing and tourism industries.
Three dead
As of now, three deaths have been reported. The waves have created significant disruptions along the coastlines of Ecuador, Chile, and Peru. Callao, one of Peru’s largest ports, has also been heavily affected and many beaches in the region have been shut for travellers, fishermen and locals, alike. The fishing boats have been banned from venturing into the sea because of the dangerous conditions. Several beaches along the central and northern coasts have been closed as a precaution.
Current situation
Because of rough sea waves, extensive damage has been caused to fishing boats and over a dozen of vessels were destroyed. As per reports from the Peruvian Navy, the extreme waves are created by winds along the ocean's surface off the coast of the United States.

In addition to the economic impact on fishermen, the situation has also led to significant safety concerns. On Saturday, the Peruvian Navy rescued 31 fishermen who were stranded in the violent waves, though nearly 180 more remain at sea, waiting to be saved. Read More
