As per the latest news reports, the upcoming 101 km, four-lane highway connecting Barabanki to Bahraich is poised to revolutionise travel in Uttar Pradesh, marking it as the state’s first digital highway. Reports add that with state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure, the project aims to ensure safer journeys, faster deliveries, and a superior travel experience for commuters.
One of the highway's innovative features will be the installation of optical fibre cables alongside it, which will eliminate future excavation. The highway will improve convenience and safety by being outfitted with National Permit Register (NPR) cameras, new lighting systems, and continuous network connectivity. Better illumination will provide safer nighttime driving, while the digital infrastructure will enable faster travel and more efficient traffic flow.
Surveys for the project have been started by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and construction is scheduled to start in March 2025. The highway would link important sites like Lucknow, Shravasti airport, NH-27, and the India-Nepal border as part of NH-927, improving regional connectivity and stimulating economic growth.
The existing two-lane road has heavy traffic, especially after the construction of the Mahadeva Corridor. Frequent delays and the deteriorating condition of the Sanjay Setu bridge have led to an upsurge in accidents. The four-lane addition is designed to address these issues and help the 25,000 vehicles that use this road daily.
Optical fibre cables will be positioned in a three-meter-wide duct along the road to deliver high-quality internet and mobile services. Businesses can hire this equipment for a little fee, boosting the region's digital connectivity.
