India's six-match white-ball series against Bangladesh has effectively been called off amidst rising diplomatic tensions between the two countries. A top source in the know told India Today that the Indian team is unlikely to travel to Bangladesh after the government advised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to not go ahead with the tour.
India and Bangladesh are currently facing trade-related tensions. On May 17, the Indian government announced major import route restrictions on goods, including ready-made garments and processed food items from Bangladesh.
According to a Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) notification, no ready-made garment products will be allowed into India via northeast-based integrated check posts (ICPs). This move was seen as a response to a similar restriction imposed by Bangladesh back in April.
"The political situation in Bangladesh is not stable, and in light of the diplomatic standoff, the Indian government has advised the BCCI not to go ahead with this tour," the source told the publication on condition of anonymity.
An official confirmation from the BCCI is still awaited.


India were scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Bangladesh in the build-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. The potential cancellation of the tour will be a blow for both sides.
