Deepak Chahar is set to play for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. MI is the third team the pacer will be playing for after the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). After the RPS dissolved following the 2017 edition, Chahar moved to play for the MS Dhoni-led team and turned out to be a key part of their setup.
In 81 IPL matches since his debut in 2016, Chahar has taken 77 wickets at an economy rate of 7.98 with two four-wicket hauls to show for his efforts. 2019 was the most prolific season for Chahar, who took 22 wickets from 17 games at an economy rate of 7.47. Dhoni used him as someone for bowling in the powerplay and the pacer hardly let his captain down.
But Chahar has had his fair share of tussles with injuries over the last three years. He ended up missing the entire edition of the IPL in 2022 due to a right quadriceps injury. He also had an injury concern last season due to which he was only able to play eight games. In his absence, the Super Kings failed to qualify for the playoffs after their bowling was depleted.

The bidding war for Deepak Chahar, who came on Day 2 of the auction, started with Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. When the bid was at Rs 7.75 crore, Chennai Super Kings joined the bidding war and raised the paddle for Rs 8 crore. MI and CSK went on a bidding war and Hardik Pandya's men eventually bought the pace bowler for Rs 9.25 crore.
For Deepak Chahar, it's a 34 percent dip in his pay as he was last bought by CSK for Rs 9.25 crore.
